The University of Melbourne is going to be the first international partner of the prestigious Nasdaq Entrepreneur Centre located in San Francisco.
Glyn Davis, Vice Chancellor of the University, stated that this new partnership would support student exchanges as well as alumni networking and access to industry mentors and experts.
He talked about the vital role Universities play in the creation of great entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Professor Davis also talked about Entrepreneurship in Melbourne and described it as the seed that drives a rapidly-expanding innovation ecosystem.
According to him, the partnership between the university and NASDAQ would give the next generation of Australian entrepreneurs access to an international startup ecosystem. This would be a global step towards allowing the thriving entrepreneurial culture in Melbourne to grow even further.
Philip Dalidakis, Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, considers this welcome news. He said it would open doors for Victorian startup companies looking to access opportunities in San Francisco’s world-leading tech sector.
Melbourne University was Victoria’s highest ranked university, Professor Davis said. The university has joined illustrious company in its move to partner up with the Centre, including MIT, University of Notre Dame, and the University of California Berkeley.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Entrepreneur Centre, which was established in 2014, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to proving support to aspiring as well as established entrepreneurs through the delivery and development of education and mentoring programs.
Professor Davis talked about the Centre and how it was primarily focused on Silicon Valley and San Francisco’s tech startup community. He said the Centre offered lectures and seminars, provided hands on business mentoring and technical assistance, and detailed information on the entrepreneurial sector.
