Business Travel and Infection Prevention Tips

As lockdown protocols lift, business travel has again become possible. But while travel restrictions have eased, you may still be feeling anxious about just how safe it really is to travel now. Although it may not be possible to eliminate absolutely every risk, there are measures we can take to reduce them while traveling. Here are some of our tips:

Make Plans:

The first thing to do is to plan for your travel. Read about your destination’s restrictions and situations so that you can prepare for them. This also prevents you from falling prey to a travel scam.

Aim for Simplicity & Direct Routes:

Try to avoid layovers and multiple plane changes to get to your destination. Look for a hotel near your destination. Ideally, the hotel should be within walking or bike distance. If you want to avoid airport crowds, book a midday flight (but be ready for higher flight prices). If you will be needing a car, book a reservation in advance to be sure that one will be available for you.

A great way to simplify your travel is to go contactless. Hotel reservations and flight e-tickets are all available for contactless payments to help you avoid contact with frequently touched spaces.

Make Travel Time Allowances:

Give yourself extra time in traveling to your destination, to allow space for any unforeseen events that may lengthen your traveling time.

Pack safe:

Bring extra masks, hand sanitisers and clothes, in case of exposure. Be aware that some airlines ban cloth masks. Extra wipes are also great for wiping frequently touched surfaces.

Check the safety protocols & cleaning policies of your accommodation.

Check Airline and Destination Requirements:

You may need to upload vaccination documents or proof of negative Covid19 test. The tests are often required to be done within the last 72 hours before travel. Plan accordingly for your test to arrive on time.

More destinations are requiring proof of vaccination and are creating apps to make it easier to upload this data and show proof. Since this information is frequently updated, check your destination to learn what is required.

Be flexible.

Travel can get frustrating due to unexpected events, especially during a pandemic. Consider the cancellation and refund policies of your reservations. Have a backup plan for someone to take care of your home or obligations in case you can’t make it back from your destination at the planned time.

Remember that when things don’t work out the way you initially planned, there is always another solution. Yet a well-planned travel agenda goes a long way in buffering unforeseen situations.
