Increasing productivity in an already fast-paced and high-demand environment may seem impossible, but there are ways to make it happen.
Regardless if it’s to do more in less time or if it’s just to give you those few extra hours of peace, here are our top five office hacks to help keep you sane while you work.
Go paperless (or at least minimise its usage in the office)
Most offices can’t afford to go completely paperless just yet, but you can get yours to a good start by cutting back on the amount of paper you use per day. Not only will this help you maintain a more organised desk, you would also be doing the environment a huge favour.
Talk less
Talking to your co-workers or even just the one nearest you may not seem like it does any harm, but you’d be surprised at how much time per day you spend chatting people up instead of getting important work done; which is not to say you shouldn’t talk at all in the office. Instead, get work out of the way first and finish your tasks early. That way, you will have more free time on your hands without worrying about pending tasks looming over your shoulder.
Listen more
This one goes hand in hand with talking less. When you stop talking, you are allowing others to speak and in doing so, you are giving yourself an opportunity to learn something new and use it for self-improvement. When you listen more, you learn more; and the more you know, the more you can apply your skills to become more productive at work.
Bottoms up
And when we say bottoms up, we mean WATER. Drinking water is very important to your health. It also allows you to stand up and walk to the water dispenser or fountain for a refill, thereby giving you short breaks and reason to stand up after sitting for hours at a time. So, aside from water being essential to your health, these short breaks can do wonders for both your physical and your mental health too.
Take breaks
Don’t limit yourself to those water breaks. Contrary to popular belief, spending all your time seated in front of the computer will not help you get more things done. It might, but the quality of work will not be the same. So, get up and do some light stretching to recharge and re-energise. When you allow your mind to refresh, you will be able to think more clearly and take on a new approach to problems or tasks you have yet to find a resolution to.
