One thing great about living in Melbourne is that you’ll never get bored. The city has just so many things to offer. Whether you stroll around as a group or by yourself, you will always find something to amuse yourself. Many people think staying here can be very costly. So to spice things up, we made a list of the fun things you can do in Melbourne that will not burn holes in your pockets. Enjoy!
- Good photowalk with some of the best alleys
Melbourne is known for its diverse and attention grabbing street art which, of course, free to view. The city is pedestrian-friendly. Prepare yourself for a “photo-walk” as you witness some of the hip and crisp artwork in Hosier Lane and Flinders Street. You may also want to check out the Centre Place and Canada Lane in Carlton, just north of the city centre.
- Hop on a bike
Melbourne has a large number of cycling paths. You should definitely try cycling in the Merri Creek Trail, which runs through the city’s northern suburbs. The Yarra Trail also offers some great views of the Yarra River to the east of the city. And if you don’t have your own bike, you can enjoy the Melbourne Bike Share Scheme: It is totally free, if returned within 30 minutes. Sounds like a good treat, mate!
- Trip to the Royal Botanic gardens
Royal Botanic Gardens is one the best tourist attractions in the city. It is home to over 12,000 plant species, providing a majestic window to Melbourne’s more genteel past. It is open to public from 7:30 am to dusk every day. Admission is also free!
- Try some good and healthy food at Lentil As Anything
Well, technically, it’s not free, but they have a very novel payment policy. Lentil As Anything is a “not-to-profit- vegetarian restaurant, where guests can actually “contribute” for the meal and the experience they had. The original restaurant is located at Abbotsford Convent. Other branches can be found in St. Kilda and Footscray.
- Sit back and unwind in Fed Square
You are more than welcome to hang out and meet new friends in the city centre. On regular days, they play art films on big screens. There are also free events. Enjoy some live music and dance performances. And yes, free WiFi for everybody.
