Save money and save the world one property at a time

The government supports and incentivises homeowners who go green and adopt sustainable practices at home. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to help the environment and save money at the same time.

One of the ways by which the government incentivises homeowners is through the issuance of rebates. Those who buy environmentally-friendly pieces of equipment (e.g. solar panels, solar-powered hot water system, etc.) can get a one-time money back repayment from the government or continuing repayments through a scheme. However, since government priorities often undergo continuous change, it is necessary for those who are looking to get incentivised to do prior research and find out what would attract a rebate.

Federal and state

Also, there are times when, even if both federal and state government offer rebate schemes for the same thing, homeowners may only claim one.

It is equally important to know that while these schemes do not have a lifetime agreement on them and may be subject to change, there are some generous rebate offers that are just too good to pass up. It is imperative for homeowners to identify these and grab them while they’re still available – waiting too long might result in ceasing or decreasing of the offer.

Local councils

Assistance programs are also available through some local councils, but they do not always come in the form of a rebate. Often, the incentives include free workshops, bargain products from select outlets, or even free waste clean-ups. It all depends on the region and the local priorities there. Some of the more common offers include e-waste recycling, rainwater tank rebates, native tree planting assistance, composting, grey water use, worm-farming schemes, and beekeeping.

In Northern Sydney, Ku – ring- gai Council provides homeowners with affordable beehives to attract stingless native bees to take up residence there.

My Green Life and Savewater are just two of the many great resources homeowners can use to find rebates and other incentives in their respective areas. Going green has now been made easier and more affordable, so more people can take advantage.
